Iran foreign minister visits Qatar amid diplomatic standoff

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates –  Iran's foreign minister is in Qatar for talks with top officials there as a quartet of Arab nations continues to boycott the energy-rich country.
Mohammad Javad Zarif's visit on Tuesday comes after Qatar in August restored full diplomatic relations with Iran. Zarif was in Oman on Monday.
Qatar pulled its ambassador from Tehran in early 2016 after Saudi Arabia's execution of a prominent Shiite cleric sparked attacks on Saudi diplomatic missions in Iran. The pullout was in solidarity with the kingdom.
The boycott now by Saudi Arabia and others is partly over what they perceive as Doha's overly warm ties with Tehran.
Iran and Qatar have strong shared commercial interests, namely a massive offshore natural gas field, called the South Pars Field by Tehran and the North Field by Doha.

Boeing 737: Australia joins Singapore in barring Max planes

SilkAir's six Max 8 aircraft will remain grounded for now Malaysia is the latest country to temporarily ban Boeing 737 Max aircraft from flying to and from the country, joining Singapore, China and Australia. The decision comes after  an Ethiopian Airlines Boeing Max 8 crashed on Sunday, killing 157 people on board . It was the second fatal accident involving that model in less than five months. Singapore's Changi Airport is the world's sixth busiest and a major hub connecting Asia to Europe and the US. But only a handful of airlines operate Max aircraft in and out of the country. No Australian airlines operate the Boeing 737 Max, and only two foreign airlines - SilkAir and Fiji Airways - fly the model into the country. Shane Carmody, who is in charge of aviation safety at Australia's Civil Aviation Safety Authority, said the suspension would remain in place while the organisation awaited "for more information to review the safety risks". ...

Google diversity head removed over anti-Semitic blog post

  Google has removed its head of diversity over a 2007 blog post that said Jewish people had "an insatiable appetite for war and killing". In a post about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict that resurfaced this week, Kamau Bobb also claimed Jewish people had an "insensitivity" to suffering. The post has now been deleted. On Thursday, a spokesperson for Google told the BBC that Mr Bobb would "no longer be part of our diversity team going forward". "We unequivocally condemn the past writings by a member of our diversity team that are causing deep offence and pain to members of our Jewish community," they said. Suffolk Coastal District Council will investigate the pond on Ed Sheeran's estate Ed Sheeran's Suffolk estate will be inspected by council officials to make sure his pond is there for wildlife and not "a wild lifestyle". Some neighbours had been worried the pond would be used for swimming and watersports, which are against planning permission. Suffolk Coastal District Council is to investigate to make sure the rules are being followed. Other neighbours said they had "no problem with Ed Sheeran whatsoever". The wildlife pond, featuring a jetty, steps and sheds, was installed after being granted planning permission in January 2017. But last year the council questioned its possible use for recreational purposes during an "enforcement investigation".
